SolarFlush.com Offers New Sloan Valve Solis Solar Powered Automatic Flush Valve

Sloan Valve SOLIS Solar Powered Flush Valve

Sloan SOLIS® Models are the
Industry’s First Solar-Powered, Sensor-Operated FlushometersSloan
Valve Company introduces the world’s first solar-powered,
sensor-operated Flushometers. Sloan SOLIS® Flushometers for water
closets and urinals provide ground-breaking water efficiency and
utilize state-of-the-art photovoltaic technology. The new Flushometers
are part of the Sloan SOLIS Collection, which also includes the 0.5
gpm/1.9 Lpm Sloan SOLIS solar-powered faucet, making Sloan the first
plumbing company to offer a complete line of solar-powered,
water-efficient products.Sloan SOLIS Flushometers use light to charge
a highly efficient capacitor, providing power even in rooms with
occupancy-controlled lighting. The solar panel powers the unit without
the need for moving parts. No moving parts in the sensor or
activation button(s) mean superior performance and reduced
maintenance. These revolutionary plumbing products offer engineers and
designers a way to visibly express a facility’s commitment to
sustainability. Toilets account for most of the water used in
commercial restrooms. The new SOLIS High-Efficiency Flushometers are
available in single-flush and dual-flush models. The dual-flush model
has two flush cycles: Users can choose the full 1.6 gpf/6.0 Lpf flush
for solid waste or the reduced flush of 1.1 gpf/4.2 Lpf for liquid
waste. If the user does not press a button, the Flushometer’s
Dual-Flush Smart Sense Technology™ takes over and automatically
initiates a flush cycle, based on how long the user remains in the
sensor range. Users who stay within the sensor range less than a
minute activate the reduced flush; users who stay longer activate the
full flush. Exhaustive research and extensive field trials have proven
the Dual-Flush Sensing Algorithm to be a reliable and efficient method
of controlling flush volume. In addition, advanced state-of-the-art
sensor technology eliminates false flushing to further ensure water
efficiency.

Purdue’s Dual-Flush Numbers Show Dramatic Water Drop

Talk all you want about how well aproduct works, but there’s nothinglike cold, hard data to prove a pointand make someone a believer. WhenMichael Carson, senior mechanicalengineer at Purdue University, firstheard about UPPERCUT dual-flushflushometers (from Sloan Valve Co.),he was skeptical.“We were curious as to whetherit would make a difference,” Carsonremembers thinking when he and hisco-horts were offered a chance to testdual-flush flushometers at Purdue’smain campus in West Lafayette, IN.Purdue initially decided to retrofitthe women’s restrooms in two of itsadministrative buildings with a totalof 12 new dual-flushhandles. Carson and his engineeringteam chose the printing services andtelecommunications buildings becauseboth have good historical water-useinformation, restroom plumbing fixturesare the buildings’ only majorwater source and women comprise ahigh proportion of the populations.Purdue installed the dual-flush handlesin the women’s restrooms in thesetwo buildings in July 2005. Carson andhis team have closely examined themonthly water-use data from the buildings’water meters, and the figures tellan interesting before-and-after story. In the printing services building, water use dropped from an average of10,228 gallons a month from July 2004to June 2005 (before the change) to5,803 gallons a month from July 2006to June 2007 (after installation). That equates to about a 43%decrease in water usage. In the telecommunications building, water use dropped from about12,229 gallons a month (July 2004-June 2005) to 8,622 gallons (July2006-June 2007) for a total mediandecrease of nearly 30%. Some singlemonth-to-month comparisons yielda drop of almost 50%.Carson solely attributes thesedecreases to the new dual-flush handles, because no other water usage or fixtureschanged inthe period studied. “The numbersare straight water meter readings,” hesays. “We saw no other cause for thewater use to drop.”
